We’ve been in Utah the past week and while we were there we decided to throw an impromptu surprise birthday party for James with his cousins who he won’t get to be with on his real birthday at the end of the month. To say it was a major hit would be a major understatement. James was in HEAVEN and kept saying, “It’s like a pretend birthday but with REAL presents!!” I got everything at Target in the party section and it all came together in about 30 minutes of setting up. Thanks to my mom, too, who provided pizza and salad!
James was a little confused at first, when we took off the blindfold and everyone yelled “surprise!” After some of the commotion died down James asked, “Wait, is it MY birthday??” But when we explained it all to him he was right on board, you can be sure of that.
It was so sweet to see how grateful James was the whole night. It got me a little choked up, actually. And as I was thinking about it beforehand during the day I also got choked up at the thought of what he would think about it all. The night was really everything I hoped it would be for my little buddy.
It was also so sweet to see how excited Charlie was for James the whole night. He basically screamed the happy birthday song (that’s his favorite song ever) and was just giggling and laughing and running around with James and the cousins and playing with the balloons all night.
So happy, and we were all so happy for him ^^
This ^^ is Charlie mid-“happy birthday Jay Jay!!!!”
The only down side of the night was that Dad wasn’t there with us to celebrate. He was in Sun Valley with his side of the family for one last mountain man trip before Tiny arrives and uncle Tanner heads off to school across the country with his wifey and their fetus. We were so glad he got to go with his family but our hearts ached for him every day we weren’t together!!
