This past week some of our extended family rented a beach house in Santa Cruz and we were able to go up a few of the days! It was magical, oh my goodness. I was surprised at how great I felt, too. Maybe the beach is medicinal for me, which means I should probably go at least once a week, right? The boys have been to the beach before, but it wasn’t anything like this. Plus the convenience of having a home base right there where we could check in a clean up and eat made all the difference. It was pretty luxurious! We can’t even begin to express how lucky we felt and how grateful we are to our Aunt and Uncle for letting us tag along!
I was a little underprepared at first, I guess I just thought the boys would try to avoid the water since they didn’t have their suits on and just play in the sand. What. Was. I. Thinking. What toddler boy avoids water?? I mean, have I even MET my children?? So we quickly changed them into their suits and all was right.
We always make sure to have a kite in our trunk in case a moment like this one ^ presents itself. Is there anything better than brothers on the beach flying a kite together? I will say, though, that Charlie got a little possessive and may have been a bossy grump about wanting to control the kite so the moment died a little due to the whines. But as long as little Charlie could fly it like a big boy all by himself, the magic remained. James was pretty sweet about relinquishing control.
Trying to get in some of the pictures…^
The view from one of the bedrooms, I mean whaaa????? So gorgeous. No wonder Charlie got too excited to nap.
He was getting so slap happy when I was trying to get him to nap, I just knew I should pull my phone out in case there was something worth a picture. Little did I know how good it would be!^ you can tell by his little eyes that he is smiling a huge hammy grin and loving being mischievous!
^Cousin Maeve is so much fun, she buried James’ feet and turned them into monster tootsies!
The second day, Charlie was desperate to take his little bottle all around the beach. That thing got so sandy and nasty, but he didn’t care and just kept chugging away!^
I am amazed at how much Charlie just wants to be big. I thought he was still too little to catch on that he was so little! But he just had to play frisbee with Dad and the big boys and wanted to do all the big boy activities anyone else was doing.^
The view from our deck (??!???!!!) …. This picture credit goes to our cousin Jen^. Can you even believe how beautiful it was there?? There was a sailboat race one night at sunset and it was crazy amazing. I can’t even begin to express how therapeutic our little getaway was for all of us! Especially since they don’t happen nearly as much as we wish they could. Now back to the daily grind!
