Now that summer is in full swing, I can’t help but long for the days when we’ll be vacationing away at some resort or beachside cabin. Luckily for me, this is in the very near future! As in, about six hours. We’re off on a little trip with my in-laws to a resort that is just an hour’s drive away. You’ll find me by the poolside, basking in the sun (fully spf’d, mind you (no need to get real rays, as I am properly spray-tanned-up and ready for my swimsuit debut)) with a good book for the majority of the week, you can be sure. But before I leave I thought I’d pump out a wee list of my summer trip essentials for you, in case you are wondering what to take on your trips, too. I’m not exactly a minimalist when it comes to packing for trips (and I’m not sorry ’bout it!), but these are the things that are the first in my bag:
a| L’Oreal Sublime Bronze: I LOVE THIS STUFF. Seriously, it makes all the difference for pale-ies like me. I usually reapply this stuff once or twice a week, but if I’m wanting to build up more for a trip or something, I’ll apply it two days in a row, then every other day through my vacation.
b| I love a good swimsuit coverup. This one is super cute, but you can get awesome ones at places like Ross, TJ Maxx, or Burlington. I have one from Wal Mart that I love. Don’t spend a lot of money for these.
c| I am kind of obsessed with distressed barracuda shorts right now. But I just get a cute pair of jeans at the local thrift store and cut them off into shorts and distress them myself (from this tute here, even though the music is creepy). I’ve done this with three pairs to date, and I wear them all on a regular rotation. They are just so casual but can be dressed up, too, for a sassy lil’ look.
d| Linen pants are so comfy and breathable for hot summer months and are great for traveling. I just got some killer blue ones at Burlington for $8 and am practically living in them. I would buy a size that is just a tad snug because they loosen up a ton.
e| Statement necklaces are perfect for traveling because they can add an extra kick to any simple t-shirt type outfit. Plus they just make you feel prettier. (also loving this one and this one)
f| I have veiny legs. And cellulite. There, I said it. But you see, it doesn’t matter when I have Sally Hansen airbrush legs!! This stuff gives a flawless finish to your tan, covering virtually all imperfections (who’s to say my legs aren’t perfect even though I have veins and dimps, hmphff!!) and lets you feel your most confident at the pool (and it’s WATERPROOF NOW!!). LOVE THIS STUFF.
g| Simple stud earrings. I’m more into necklaces these days so I go for the stud earring so that I don’t look all crazy-bejeweled. Plus when I have a versatile stud (besides John) I can just leave them in all week and not worry about packing more earrings. (and these are yummy, too)
h| Simple statement tees. I LOVE T-SHIRTS. But I still want to be on trend. Statement tees are easy to pack and easy to dress up or down with different jewelry and bottoms.
i| I love big bags, especially now that I have a lil’ buddy with a bunch of accessories to carry around for him. I love my diaper bag, but I like to go with a big purse on trips to pull double duty as my purse and a little carry-all for Dudeski (and let’s be honest, for John, too.). (This one is tempting…)
j| A simple but trendy slip on sandal. The funkier, the better, I say.
k| Aviators. LOVE them. I think they are the sexiest of all the sunnies. I just got some Steve Maddens at Burlington for less than $10. They fit like a dream.
l| A good hat or two, for the days you just don’t want to bother doing your hair. I love straw fedoras. They are just so summery. I recently got one at Wal Mart for $5. You seriously don’t need to spend heaps to get the look.
m| Easy and casual, but on-trend updos for my long hair, just to get it off my neck in the heat and still look cute.
And there you have it. Happy hollidaying, y’all!!
