There was a man. I don’t recall how we knew him, but he was very important to us. He found himself in an awful situation that effected our family terribly. He felt extremely guilty and responsible for our pain and couldn’t seem to find satisfaction in his efforts to make things right with us. John and I assured him that we loved him and that we had forgiven him, and that we were just concerned about his well-being now. But he wouldn’t hear it. He was just swallowed up in agony at the thought of bringing sorrow to our little home. He explained that he had been praying and praying and praying for guidance to know how to fix things in his life and in ours, but he felt like no One was hearing his pleas. He seemed absolutely broken, this poor man. In trying to console him, I grabbed his hand, looked him square in the eye, and explained with everything in my soul:
“We must not forget that so much of God’s Great Plan has to do with Divine Timing. Sometimes God waits to answer our prayers until the timing is just right enough that our faith will be built the most because of His undeniable Hand in our lives. Sometimes He waits to come to us until we will know for a surety that it is Him when He does come, so that we will be comforted the very most when we need it the very most. Sometimes He waits to resolve our concerns until we are ready to learn the most from Him when he does resolve them. Don’t give up on your prayers. Don’t give up on Hope. Your time will come.”
And then I woke up.
I don’t know why Heavenly Father gave me this gift of a dream. Heaven knows we do not currently find ourselves in any sort of hopeless situation. We feel very blessed and very comfortable right now. But I won’t forget this dream, because Heaven also knows that some day I will need it. Not every day or every week or every month will be carefree, surely. And when the time comes to cling to Hope, I will remember that my Father in Heaven is seasoning me to be better and stronger and more faithful until the time is right for Hope to be fulfilled.
