“The next day John texted me and said he wasn’t going to go camping so he’d love to meet up with me that night. A group of friends and I went to Butlerville Days and he was going to meet up later after some other festivities. Turns out that there were several boys in that group of friends that I had been extremely interested in for quite some time, and for the first time they were showing a lot of interest in me, too. But I didn’t even care! I just kept looking around to see if John was there yet. I was really drawn to him, even though we’d only gone out just once. He finally got there and we were pretty much in our own little world the rest of the night. We all went to Denny’s after and even though these guys were trying to work it with me, I only cared about John. I was really starting to like him a lot. He had been dropped off so I got to take him home. It was just what I wanted, to have some time with him alone, with no distractions around us. We talked a lot and were very honest with each other about past emotional baggage. Conversation was very comfortable, but so was the occasional silence.
He texted me again the next day and said that he and his little sister, Libby, were going on a date and were wondering if I wanted to join them. I was shocked at how he was pursuing me so confidently and felt very flattered that he wanted to see me every day. He took Libby and me to this cute little Italian café for dinner. I noticed that he called the chef by name. John remembers everyone’s name. He is so good at that. I asked Libby if she knew my name, and she said, “John told me it was Sweetie Pie!” My heart! Oh my goodness, that was just adorable for so many reasons. John then took us back to his house and introduced me to the rest of his family. I couldn’t believe how wonderful they all were! Because of B.’s family I was used to having my guard totally up, and turned into a skeptic when it came to people’s sincerity and genuineness. But the H. Family blew me away. Oh my goodness. They are all angels. Literally. They have this glow about them, I call it the H. glow. Their countenances are all so bright. I felt so comfortable in their home that night. It was such a contrast to what I had been used to with past experiences. It was like home.
John and I watched a movie that night and he held my hand and we cuddled, thanks to his confidence in grabbing my hand and holding me. After the movie was over he said, “Wanna watch another movie so we can keep cuddling?” It made me giggle. So we watched another movie and then talked for a good three hours after that. When he took me home he just looked into my eyes and said, “Jessi, I like you. A lot. I’m not even scared of how much I like you already, which is very uncharacteristic of me.” I told him that I felt the exact same way, but that I didn’t think we should kiss just yet. I had to prove to myself that I had become more emotionally mature and could handle the situation responsibly. After all, it was only day three. He gently agreed to my proposal and just gave me a big hug. We’ve been together every day since then, except a five-day trip I had to go on for school. He ended up kissing me a few days after the third date, and that was when my life began.”
