18/30 Things: Forgiveness

{To know what I’m talking about, and to see past 30 Things posts, start here…}

18.  What has been the most difficult thing you have had to forgive?

I’ve written some posts on this already {here and here}, but suffice it to say that I was hurt very badly once upon a time by someone I trusted and loved so I had to work through it to allow myself to open my heart up again to someone else.  It sounds very generic, and in a way it is–we all have had our hearts broken.  But it was my story and my process and my road to forgiveness and it healed me and  and the very day I started on that road to opening my heart up again was the day I went on my first date with John.  Had I gone out with him even the day before, I may not have been ready for him and our journey together.  Here’s an excerpt from a journal entry I wrote about being ready to forgive and soften my heart:

I have a date tonight with a guy named John H.  He’s in my ward.  I’m so grateful he asked me out.  He’s very kind and I just need a boy to be kind to me right now.  I don’t know if he’s particularly my type, but I don’t even know what my type is anymore.  Maybe he’ll surprise me.  It’s good timing, anyway.

And we all know how that date went!  Yes, it’s been a long process to forgive someone who I felt wronged me, but I know Heavenly Father has been with me every inch of the way.  That really was the first day of the rest of my life.
