17/30 Things: Great

{To know what I’m talking about, and to see past 30 Things posts, start here…}

17. What is the thing you most wish you were great at?

I think it’s a tie between being an incredible dancer and being a concert pianist.  Sigh, can you imagine??

Yeah, I can dance, but I am majorly lacking in technique.  So, really, I just pretend to be able to dance.  And I haven’t even done that for years.  My body is definitely not as strong {or as light} as it once was and I don’t know how well I’d fare these days with the pointing and the leaping and the extending and the pirouetting and the like.  But my heart longs to!  Maybe one day.  John got me couples dance lessons for our anniversary, so that could set my spirit free {if we ever get around to it…*cough, cough* John…}.

Yeah, I can play the piano.  A tinsy-bo-binsy bit.  I took for years when I was younger and I regret now ever having quit.  It is a dream of mine to be able to sit at a piano with any piece of sheet music in front of me and to be able to play it perfectly just by sight-reading.  How awesome would that be!  It would be so fulfilling to be able to pound out any song I want.  But, heck, I’d settle for being able to play every hymn in the hymn book, which is totally realistic for me.  I just need a refresher course on theory and then I might actually be able to make something of myself.  Then I might even be able to write music to accompany some of the songs I’ve written in my head…  Maybe one day.

Tune in next time: What has been the most difficult thing you have had to forgive?

    Love it, Jess. That picture is to DIE FOR! I bet the man was one happy man!

    I also love those two things. Yeah, I belly dance, but I want to be grrrreaaat. Who has the time to be so great when they’re a wife/mom/student/employee/etc.? 🙂 BUT. We can be the greatest we can and have fun, right? Right!

    (Same for piano…I’m self taught, but I can sit and sort-of play through music…I want to play all the hymns, too! Here in Spain I can’t believe no one in the entire district plays piano…I offered to play on a hymn I knew that we sang and everyone was so so thrilled!)

    I like that picture of you and like that the wishbone necklace made it to your sexy photo shoot. Hee hee 🙂 (By the way, I totally took your advice and booked one for myself, as a present for Jon for Valentine’s! Ah!)

    To be honest, the best way to learn the piano is a calling. I had never ever played the organ (basically the same) in my life and I got called to play the organ. I’m not good at the organ, but I can almost sight read any hymn. Heavenly Father has blessed me MAJORLY from that.

    P.S. I absolutely LOVE your blog. Seriously. Spent the last two days just dying in awe. Love it.
