4/30 Things: Sixteen

{To know what I’m talking about, and to see past 30 Things posts, start here…}

4. List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.

1. You are a perfectionist, even though you don’t realize it.  Don’t get used to being the best at your endeavors, because it definitely won’t last once you get out into the real world.  Learn to be okay not being the best at something.

2. You will go through a terrible heart break, but it is important that you don’t avoid it.  You’ll learn invaluable lessons because of it and it will lead you to the love of your life and the life you love.  You must be brave through this experience and allow Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to help you through it.  Do not shut them out or blame them for your trial.  It’ll just make it harder.

3. Prepare better for your mission.  You won’t be as good at is as you think you’ll be.

4. Learn to not expect too much from others.  This will prevent a lot of disappointment and feelings of under-appreciation.

5. Do not place your self worth in the hands of boys.  You are amazing independent of boys liking you.  And you need to realize that you are truly amazing and worthy of being liked by boys, even though they don’t really like you that much right now.  It’ll all work out in the end, anyway, with snatching the greatest boy of all as your eternal boyfriend.

6. Foster a love for exercise and health.  This will help your relationship with food be less dramatic.

7. You need to figure out a way to detatch your self esteem from what other people think of you.  If you don’t do this now, you’ll be 27 years old and still working on this one…  Learn to be okay disappointing some people sometime.  But never your Father in Heaven.

8. Treat your sisters better.  Don’t threaten to disown them if they borrow your clothes without asking.  They will be your best friends one day.

9. Don’t quit the piano!!!!!!

10. Spend more time with your grandparents, especially Grandpa John and Grandma Marilyn.  You’ll miss them desperately one day and hope you had let them tell you stories more often.

Tune in tomorrow: What are the 5 things that make you most happy right now?

  1. John says:

    I love this series and this post! You had great things to say to sixteen-year-old you! Once I finish the time machine I am building for you, you will really appreciate all the advice that you will give yourself! 🙂

  2. Amber says:

    What a great post! Thanks for this – it resonated with me as a 33 yr old gal that God is still working on me to look only to Him for my self-worth instead of others. Thanks Jessi. God bless you.
