What’s in a name? Weirdo children.

Let it be known that I do not care what sex my first born is.
But I know it’s a girl. If I’m wrong? Then I’ll never trust my instincts again. That’s how sure I am it’s a girl. My little princess. My little Georgia, or Hazel, or Eleanor, or Gretta…. I love family names. They speak to me and resound in my soul. Plus I think my soul is about 86, so grandma names fit my style.
The other day at work my co-worker told a geriatric patient who came in that he and his wife were naming their baby Lydia (LOVE it.). To this the patient replied, “What is it with everyone naming their babies grandma names these days?!” To which my co-worker replied, “It’s not like we’re naming her ‘Georgia’ or something!” To which I replied (in my mind, I hadn’t told said co-worker of my little sesame seed yet), “Georgia is my number one pick for a girl, you dweeb!! Who needs you anyway! Cheeky bum.” (Matt–you’re great. And I love the name ‘Lydia.’)
And yes, I’m serious about the names above. I LOVE THEM. You’re duty? Love them with me. Even if you’re pretending. They each have sentimental value, whether it be the first name or the middle names I have chosen for each name above that I have not yet revealed to you. Trust me, they are so stinking cute.
This is the way I test whether or not a baby name is cute:
I say the name in a baby talk voice, with some added baby-talk fluff, puckering my lips, hunching down to my haunches with my arms extended, like I’m sumnmoning a baby to come enjoy my embrace.
For example: Xenia.
Oh my widdle Xenia, sweety pwecious puppy girl!
=
weird name.
Weird child, most likely.
(And definitely weird parents, if they’re naming their kid Xenia.ย  Bleh.)
Let’s try Georgia.
Oh my widdle Georgie Georgia baby girl, I wuv you and your perfect widdle wips!
=
ย  cute name.
ย Cute child.
DANG cute child.
(DANG cute parents.)
Here’s to traditionally cute classic names.
I guess Georgia by any other name would smell as sweet.
But only as long as the name is Hazel, Gretta, or Eleanor…or…

Hey congrats on the baby Jess, that’s so exciting! Isn’t it great you can name ’em what ever you want and no one else really has a say despite their vast opinions :). I’m excited to hear what you decide on when she makes her appearance.
